What and Why?

What do I pray for?

James 5:16

...and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

We start with praying for one another in our spiritual family (our church body), then the people outside of that family (city).

1 John 2:2 WEB

And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

Number 1 area to pray for is Churches!

Why? John 10:10

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Because of strongholds in some churches. Even in a ‘Christian’ church, there will be a thief of some type; so, we pray for ALL churches.

A stronghold is the strongest building

in a castle.

If the stronghold is on the outer wall then it is filled with warriors, if the stronghold is in the center of the castle then it is a place that those residing in that domain can hide.

One warrior against a stronghold will not do much. Which is why we pray together against a spiritual stronghold.

There is a duality to reality: A physical world and a Spiritual world.

We see Jesus explaining the Spiritual world by using physical objects.

There are many in Mathew here are but a few:

Matthew 13:33

Another parable He spoke to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.”

Matthew 13:45

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,

We see and fight in the physical world, but the results are in the Spiritual world.

Ephesians 6:12 NKJV

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

What do I pray? Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Always pray blessings, never a curse!

Start with giving thanks for everything He has allowed in your life, good or bad. We don’t know God’s plan for that issue/blessing in your life. Trust Him to allow things in your life to make you more like Jesus.

John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn… but to save

Pray for God’s Love and Grace over the people in the church. (or location or person(s))

Pray that God visits the location or person(s).

Pray that God’s Spirit sits with the leaders and teachers of that church, while they study.

Pray that God’s wisdom, understanding, and Truth prevails in that church! (or location or person(s))

Deut. 20:4

"For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory." (God is with you to give you victory, but you must step out into the battle with Him!)

Rom. 8:31

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

Josh. 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

Deut. 3:22

“Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you.”

Josh. 23:10

"One of your men puts to flight a thousand, for the LORD your God is He who fights for you, just as He promised you."

God is with you as you pray for your city, He wants His children in your city to come back to Him.
